(UMT Lahore, 2017) MUHAMMAD WAQAS YOUNAS
The present research aimed to investigate the relationship between child abuse, interpersonal difficulties and psychopathic tendencies in juvenile delinquents. It was hypothesized that there is likely to be a relationship between child abuse, interpersonal difficulties and psychopathic tendencies in juvenile delinquents. Interpersonal difficulties are likely to moderate the relationship between child abuse and psychopathic tendencies in juvenile delinquents. Urdu versions of questionnaires Child Abuse Scale (CAS) (Malik & Shah, 2007), Questionnaire about Interpersonal Difficulties for Adolescents (QIDA) (Inglés et al., 2000) and Childhood Psychopathy Scale (CPS) (Lynam, 1997) were used in the present study. The purposive sample of N=120 (60=girls, 60=boys) juvenile delinquents with age range of 12-18 (girls, M = 14.20, SD = 1.63, boys, M = 14.37, SD = 1.55) years were drawn from the Child Protection & Welfare Bureau of Lahore. The results of Pearson product moment correlation revealed that child abuse was found to be negatively significantly associated with psychopathic tendencies. Results of gender vise correlation revealed that in girls, there was found to be significantly negatively correlation between interpersonal difficulties and child abuse. Whereas in boys, psychopathic tendencies were found negative significant with child abuse. Moderation analysis through hierarchical regression analysis showed that physical abuse was found to be significant negatively predictor of psychopathic tendencies in boys. While emotional abuse was positively significant predictor of psychopathic tendencies in girls. The interaction effect shows that increase in interpersonal difficulties has strengthen the negative relationship between physical neglect and glibness. It also strengthens the negative relationship between physical abuse and lack of guilt. While interpersonal difficulties have strengthened the positive relationship between emotional abuse and unreliability. It is included that interpersonal difficulties explained the relationship between child abuse and psychopathic tendencies in juveniles.
