Impact of Socio-Economic Determinants on rural Poverty; Evidence from the South Punjab Pakistan
(UMT, Lahore, 2023) MUHAMMAD MOHSIN RAZA
This thesis examines the impact of socio-economic determents on rural poverty in the South Punjab region of Pakistan. It focuses specifically on poverty in rural areas, where poverty rates are high. The study aims to provide evidence-based insights into the effectiveness of poverty strategies and inform future policy decisions aimed at reducing poverty and promoting socio-economic development in the region. Using a quantitative research design, individual households are analysed as the unit of analysis. A survey instrument with a five-point Likert scale is employed to collect data on key variables related to poverty and socio-economic development. Descriptive and inferential statistics, including correlation and regression analyses, are used to analyse the data. The results of the study highlight the effectiveness of poverty strategies in South Punjab. Microfinance, vocational training, and social safety net programs are identified as the most impactful strategies. It also recommends greater investment in education, healthcare, and infrastructure to improve poverty efforts in the region. By providing evidence-based insights, this thesis contributes to the understanding of poverty and socio-economic development in South Punjab. The findings inform policy decisions aimed at reducing poverty and promoting sustainable development in the region. Overall, this research serves as a valuable resource for policymakers, practitioners, and researchers working towards poverty reduction and socio-economic development in similar contexts
