Design & Build of a working Model of Aircraft Cargo Loader
(UMT, Lahore, 2022) Huzaifa Shoaib; Hassan Mehmood Mirza; Mahad Asad Malik
This paper highlights all the necessary requirements for fabrication and actual fabrication of a Model Aircraft Cargo Loader. The paper begins with Introduction to Aircraft Cargo Loader along with aims and objectives of this project. It gives a brief history of freight loaders and the existing regulations of three different Aviation legislative bodies. The available cargo loaders in market today are also discussed as a reference for starting the research on how the model under consideration can be fabricated to perform desired task. Authors have also highlighted any innovations that can be inducted in the project. The innovations will address the problem of ground equipment based accidents due to human errors and provide a mechanism for its prevention during operations. The paper includes the Industrial Survey and Market Survey to narrow down the resources required and available in market for construction of the model. The cost and safety factors outlined from these surveys helped authors in selecting the correct structure and actuator. The theoretical analysis is carried out to understand the proposed project’s credibility and components’ specifications that are utilised. It consists of calculations which were carried out to find the force required to raise 20kg load, torque required to turn power screw for lifting load and length of power screw required to raise platform to 2ft. height. The design mechanism is also reviewed through this analysis and its results are utilised to understand the scissor lift’s minimum angle with respect to base and motor’s power. Through stress analysis on Ansys, the structural strength and stress involved are simulated. This analysis was carried out to eliminate any chances of stress failure of model by selecting the correct materials for model’s components. Using a 3D model, the project’s proposed design is represented along with step by step assembly of individual component. The safety systems inducted in model are also discussed in this paper. Electrical connections and interfacing each electronic component with each other to fulfil system’s purpose are discussed in detail. Techniques used during fabrications such as welding, subtractive manufacturing, soldering, painting, etc. are discussed along with the problem analysis which addresses the troubles faced during model testing along with solutions used to overcome those problems.
