An efficient electricity theft and fault detection scheme in distribution system
(Science International, 2016) Muhammad Fahad Zia; Fahad Ali
Currently the world is facing energy (electricity) crisis and it is becoming severe with the passage of time. Every country is striving to produce and save electricity. In developing countries, especially, a considerable amount of revenue is lost due to electricity pilferage and fault occurrence on the distribution system. Therefore, it is required to design a system that would be able to detect electricity theft as well as the faults on the distribution system. This paper presents an efficient and simple technique which operates efficaciously as an electricity theft detector and also serves the function of a protective relay. In this scheme, each customer is provided with smart meter and a main observer meter is connected to distribution transformer. Meters send the readings to the data acquisition center where the proposed algorithm is applied to detect theft or fault scenario. Electricity theft can be considerably reduced by using this proposed metering technique. This algorithm can also identify associated areas of electricity theft.

Legal framework for arbitration in resolving disputes in Pakistan and India
    (UMT Lahore, 2024-08-09) Fahad Ali
This thesis critically analyses the legislative arbitration regime of Pakistan by making a holistic comparative analysis with the jurisdiction of India. This research attempts to elaborate on the historical development of laws relating to arbitration in both Pakistan and India. As the Arbitration Act of 1940 is the most important law regarding arbitration in Pakistan, so it was discussed quite in detail. Despite making many amendments to the arbitration regime of Pakistan, it is still facing many problems judicial interference and enforcement of decrees. In this regard, a comparison is drawn with the jurisdiction of India as to how India is tackling these obstacles and how the system of India is trying to overcome these problems. This study not only highlights key areas of concern in the arbitration regime of Pakistan but also offers a plethora of suggestions that can help Pakistan in tackling problems and have a good image on the global front.

Microcontroller based implementation of fuel cell and battery integrated hybrid power source
(2012) Fahad Ali; Syed Mohsin Ali; Abdul Aziz Bhatti; Mashood Nasir
This paper presents the implementation of a digitally controlled hybrid power source system, composed of fuel cell and battery. Use of individual fuel cell stacks as a power source, encounters many problems in achieving the desired load characteristics. A battery integrated, digitally controlled hybrid system is proposed for high pulse requirements. The proposed hybrid power source fulfils these peak demands with efficient flow of energy as compared to individual operations of fuel cell or battery system. A dc/dc converter is applied which provides an optimal control of power flow among fuel cell, battery and load. The proposed system efficiently overcomes the electrochemical constraints like over current, battery leakage current, and over and under voltage dips. By formulation of an intelligent algorithm and incorporating a digital technology (AVR Microcontroller), an efficient control is achieved over fuel cell current limit, battery charge, voltage and current. The hybrid power source is tested and analyzed by carrying out simulations using MATLAB simulink. Along with the attainment of desired complex load profiles, the proposed design can also be used for power enhancement and optimization for different capacities.

Microcontroller based intelligent hybrid energy source and grid integration
    (UMT, Lahore, 2013) Fahad Ali
This research work presents a fuel cell/battery model based intelligent hybrid energy source connected with a micro grid, which would resolve power intermittency and variability issues. A hybrid energy source (HES) composed of more than one storage devices that when incorporated, overcome limitations in either and can supply both high power and energy densities. The model proposed in this research work is composed of a battery bank and a stack of fuel cells, controlled by a microcontroller (AVR). The AVR microcontroller senses the load properties and then operates the energy devices accordingly as per required demands of the load. The limitations like economics, fuel flexibility, efficiency & reliability can be handled by this hybrid energy source. Different topologies can be considered in the designing of a hybrid energy source. The proposed model is very smart in the monitoring and control of the quality and stability of power delivered. This proposed model is integrated with the electric grid, which controls the voltage and frequency, further smoothes the variability of the generated power. This model mainly consists of digital controller (AVR Microcontroller), DC/DC and DC/AC converters that efficiently manage the power flow to the both DC and AC sides. Simulation results are given to show the overall system performance including the power management of the system.

    Voice controlled wheel chair
(UMT Lahore, 2022-01-10) Muhammad Nautash Khan; Fahad Ali
This paper presents an electrical wheel chair that uses voice recognition tool. A voice-controlled wheel chair is very convenient to use for physically disabled person who cannot control their hands movements. The powered wheel chair uses motors for its movement and voice recognition for voice commands. The voice command is given through mic then transfer to Arduino Nano to control wheel chair. Moreover, its circuit consists of an Arduino and voice recognition V3 module. This system was designed and developed to save time energy and cost of the disable. Voice of the user is recognize by voice recognition module and then it provides the data stored in form of codes to Arduino microcontroller. Then Arduino controls its movement accordingly. The objective is design a system which make the life of disable people easier.
