Item A study of students’ perception about principals(UMT, Lahore, 2013) Ayesha AfzalThe study focuses on the perception of a student specifically about a principal. How a student perceives his/her principal’s behaviour from his/her own capacity in school is the main objective of this study. A qualitative approach was used to document and analyze the perception of a secondary school student about his/her principal in the context of Pakistani culture. A descriptive method was used to carry out the study. Interviews with the secondary school students were conducted to capture their perception specifically about their principal and generally about schooling. This general perception of a student about schooling was considered relevant with his/her specific perception about his/her principal. Interviewees were both male and female students of secondary school. A questionnaire was developed to use for the interview of students. Although my main objective of thesis was students’ perception about principals yet such a perception about principals could be gauged through a spectrum of other possibilities which enhanced my understanding of the issue at hand. The principal was found knowledgeable and supportive as per norm and not as an exception. The students showed a bit digressed that the Principal does not do as he/she says. He/she goes by the situation norms or the rules. The environment at the school is reported to be preferential for some students not for all in all matters. It is recommended that the job description of the Principal should be clearly known to the students as well as to the principal and the Principal should be exposed to the training in socialization, value characterization, and instructional leadership as the custodian of the school.Item Analyzing the representation of Pakistan in Bollywood and Hollywood via the lens of propaganda theory(UMT, Lahore, 2020) Ayesha AfzalThe two biggest markets of Film production i.e. Hollywood and Bollywood have produced a plethora of films regarding terrorism. Hamidullah has chiefly unveiled feminine issues of marginalization, objectification, and gendered violence in her short stories. Spivak (1998) in “Can the Subalterns Speak?” has unearthed that women have been continuously deprived of raising voice for themselves throughout history. Using this specific notion of Spivak, this paper argues that Hamidullah's female characters are forced to be silent, and to sustain this situation, men unleash violence on them. Connell (2005) states, “hegemonic masculinity was understood as the pattern of practice that allowed men's domination over women to continue” (p. 832). The study has been carried out in a qualitative descriptive manner via the theory of 'The Excitable Speech' by Judith Butler (1997) to explore Marxist feminist perspective, the acts of violence, and measure the dreadful impact of patriarchal society on suppressed women. The acts of violence are both physical and verbal. Verbal violence is the injury caused by hurtful speech acts. As Butler (1997) says in ‘Excitable Speech: A politics of the Performative’ “Linguistic injury appears to be the effect not only of the words by which one is addressed but the mode of address itself, a mode: -a disposition or conventional bearing- that constitutes a subject, (p. 1).” The study will provide a gateway for future feminist literary critics to explore and analyze the concerns of hegemonic masculinity, cultural stereotypes, and gender roles in the post-colonial paradigm.Item A study of students' perception about principals(University of Management and Technology, 2013) Ayesha AfzalThe study focuses on the perception of a student specifically about a principal.
