    BALANCING WORK AND FAMILY LIFE – A STUDY OF WORKING WOMEN

    The empowerment of women in the workplace has been a pressing issue worldwide for several decades. Despite progress made in some countries, many women still face various challenges, including gender inequality, discrimination, and lack of support in the workplace. Gender inequality in the workplace persists for women, especially in male-dominated areas, and is further compounded by cultural and societal norms in countries like Pakistan. Lahore being the nd largest city of Pakistan is also prone to such problems. Lack of support can lead to lower job satisfaction and limited career advancement, making it crucial for organizations to promote equal opportunities and work-life balance to address these challenges. Therefore, the need to explore and address the challenges faced by working women in Lahore, Pakistan is essential to promote gender diversity and create a level playing field for all employees. This study aims to investigate the support provided to working women in Lahore and its impact on their career advancement. The study seeks to identify the current state of support provided to women in the in Lahore and to determine the best practices for promoting gender diversity and work-life balance. The study employs a quantitative approach, consisting of a comprehensive literature review and a survey administered to employees and HR departments of various organizations in Pakistan. The literature review synthesizes existing research on the topic, providing a comprehensive overview of the challenges faced by women in the workplace and the various forms of support that can be provided to address these challenges. The survey was conducted to gather data on the support provided to women in the workplace, including the availability of flexible work arrangements, mentorship and sponsorship programs, and access to training and development opportunities. The results of the study revealed that while some organizations in Lahore are taking steps to promote gender diversity, there is still a significant gap in support for working women, particularly in terms of work-life balance and career advancement. The study found that workplace organizations in Lahore should prioritize providing support for women, including flexible work arrangements, mentorship and sponsorship programs, and access to training and development opportunities. Furthermore, the study identified the need for raising awareness about gender diversity and the importance of supporting working women

    Development and Evaluation of Emulsion-based Zinc Fortified Cupcakes Using In Vitro Simulated Digestion Modelling

    Zinc is a crucial micronutrient that plays multiple roles in human body. While, the deficiency of zinc has substantial consequences for overall health. Prevalence of inadequacy of zinc intake is around 17.3% of the population worldwide. The recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for zinc fluctuates by age, sex, and life stages. The aim of the study was to develop and evaluate emulsion-based zinc fortified cupcakes using in vitro simulation digestion modelling. The impact of emulsion technology can be evaluated by amount of zinc absorbed in the body through in vitro simulation digestion. In this study zinc-based water-in-oil emulsion containing canola oil was prepared. In addition, various treatments of cupcakes with different proportions of emulsion were formulated and analyzed on the base of height, weight, baking loss, and sensory analysis. Moreover, color and textural analysis were also being performed. Selection of best cupcakes for in vitro simulated digestion was done on the basis of sensory evaluation. Physical characteristics of cupcakes for all treatments were significantly different (p < 0.05) from each other except width and baking loss (p > 0.05) of cupcakes. Results revealed a significant (p<0.05) effect of incorporation of emulsions on textural attributes except hardness (p=0.441) for all treatments.

    Overprotective parenting, identity, and assertiveness in university students

    This research investigates the relationship between overprotective parenting, identity, and assertiveness in university students. Random stratified sampling was used in this research. Here, 300 male and female university students between the ages of 18 and 27 had participated. The scales used for data collection were Early Memories of Up-Bringing-Adult Version (Arrindell et al., 1991), Identity Scale for College Students (Ijaz & Rizvi, 2015), and Assertiveness Scale for University Students (Ijaz & Khalid, 2020). The findings indicated that there is a negative relationship of overprotective parenting with arrogant identity, social identity and independent identity. And arrogant-identity has a positive significant relationship with social identity, independent identity, assertiveness and self-regulation assertiveness. Those students who were in 4th years of the programs were more assertive than other years of university students. Men university population were more assertive than women university population. The implications of the research study is to help parents learn about various parenting styles and their effects, particularly how overprotective parenting affects a person's identity and assertiveness. The study's findings will captivate both clinical and non-clinical samples in a big way. Additionally, it will assist the therapist in changing the attachment patterns linked to parenting practices. Furthermore, parents would discuss how to raise their children properly through seminars and awareness campaigns.

    Perceived occupational stress, workplace spirituality, workplace happiness and work family conflict in working women

    The present study aimed to explore the relationship among Perceived Occupational Stress, Workplace Spirituality, Workplace Happiness, and Work-Family Conflict in Working Women. A correlational research design was used, and data were gathered from 237 working women across various sectors including academia, corporate organizations, and NGOs in Lahore. Standardized, reliable tools such as Workplace Stress Scale (WPSS) was used to measure perceived occupational stress levels; the Workplace Spirituality Scale was used to evaluate employees' sense of community, meaning, and alignment with organizational values; the Happiness at Work Scale was used to assess emotional well-being and satisfaction in the workplace; and the Work-Family Conflict Scale was used to measure the degree of conflict between professional and family roles. The findings revealed that women who reported higher levels of workplace stress also experienced greater work-family conflict. On the other hand, women who found meaning in their work (workplace spirituality) and those who felt emotionally fulfilled and satisfied (workplace happiness) were less likely to experience this conflict. Interestingly, women from nuclear families reported higher workplace happiness. Women with 6–10 years of work experience also reported a deeper spiritual connection to their work. Additionally, employees working in academic settings felt more spiritually aligned and emotionally satisfied with their jobs than those in corporate or NGO sectors. Overall, the study highlights the importance of emotionally supportive and spiritually enriching work environments in helping women navigate the complex balance between their professional and personal lives. These findings can guide organizations, counselors, and policymakers in creating healthier, more meaningful workplaces for women.
