    Family environment, psychological manipulation and social connectedness In university students

    The present study was aimed to assess the relationship among the family environment, psychological manipulation and social connectedness in university students. Research design was cross sectional and a sample of 445 university students from both Public and private colleges of the Lahore (N=445) was studied. In study 1, the development of Family Cohesion Scale (FCS) was done which comprised of 20 items. Items are measured on a 5-point Likert scale consisting of two factor named as Communication and Satisfaction. In study 2 testing of main hypothesis was done and measures included the Family Cohesion Scale (FCS), Psychological Manipulation (VPM), and Social Connectedness scale (SCS). Data was analyzed using SPSS 21 version. Findings of the correlation and regression analysis showed that family environment has a positive correlation with the social connectedness and negative relation with psychological manipulation. Family environment is also positively correlated with social connectedness while psychological manipulation is negatively correlated with it. The results of hierarchical regression analysis indicated that high level of psychological manipulation by parents and low level of socialization. t-test findings showed that male and female have same tendencies for psychological manipulation. Moreover, the students studying in the private institutes have the higher tendencies toward the psychological manipulation than those studying in government institutes. The findings were discussed in Pakistani context.
