Item Implementation of lean manufacturing to enhance the productivity and reduce waste in apparel industry(UMT, Lhr, 2016) Salman Asghar; Aqib GillaniToday Pakistan’s textile industry faces a lot of challenges. These challenges are how they can maximize their production in order to achieve their industry targets of production. Expeditious advancement in competition has set new objectives to textile industry. These competitions can be accomplished by implementation of managements systems which will eventually help industry in marking their successes in this competitive industrial era. To survive in this term of struggle where country is currently in energy crisis industries can take an edge by adopting some techniques which will help them to prosper. Many factors play an important role to sustain in this time where energy crisis brings a lot of threat to not produce required production. To endeavor success in competitive markets industries usually use lean philosophy. Currently very few industries in Pakistan have been using these methods in industry. Different improvement tools can be used to get desired results in production. Old business models are no longer applicable to generate turnover for an industry. In this research we found that how lean manufacturing can benefit different processes in apparel industry. Every products faces a lot of difficulties during its production that how it can be manufactured with least wastage and utilizing minimum raw material. This research emphasizes mainly on the improvement in production and least wastage by applying some techniques. Their results and effects were on whole processes of textile industry because when a process is being improved then it gives its affects to other processes too. This research work was done in Umer Siddique Apparel & Textiles (Pvt) Ltd textile industry to show how it can reduce waste and enhance productivity. The objectives of this paper are to study and evaluate areas of industry where lean manufacturing techniques can be applied which improves this area. Kaizen was applied to places where waste can be eliminated, 5s was applied to improve quality and production [1]. Those areas are found then suggestions were provided to industry for implication of lean manufacturing in order to improve that section of industry. Results shows that after applying lean manufacturing those sections where improved. The advantage of using lean manufacturing can minimize fabric wastage which will improve productivity.
