Patterns of festivity “innovative textiles inspired by day of the dead festival”
    (UMT, Lhr, 2020) Anosha Younas
Mexican Festival Day of the Dead tell us about the history and celebrations and how they remembered their deceased loved ones in a joyful way. Festive Patterns are taken from the Day of the Dead festivals as it is bright and vibrant celebrations. It is focused by their traditional colors and art. It’s the festival rich in culture and history and manifests in very bright visual ways. Festivities unfold over the days in an explosion of color and life affirming joy. Two illustrious artist Victoria Villasana and Pristine Cartera have worked on it. Victoria Villasana, she is a Textile artist and interested in cultures, human spirits, looking at how culture and memories connect to each other in a fragmented, post-digital work. The reason I inspired from her is that she is making embroidery patterns and plays around with yarn. Pristine Cartera, she is a painter, her inspiration is making Mexican paintings with rich and bold colors of Mexico. The focus behind choosing this festival is to reviving the culture of memories and commemoration which needs to keep in reminiscences and are fading to be forgotten with time. Emerging the different colors, shapes and patterns to reflect the traditions of festival. Day of the dead festival is one of my inspired festival because of the art and their cultural values, their costumes, color combinations, makeup and the most important their way to remember their deceased loved one. This project revolves around different products of home textiles and generates new and unique designs which are rich in colors and coordinate with the upcoming trends of the contemporary market. Different techniques and bright colors are used to make this project more effective. It is designed according to the current market trend as Mexican style is considered to be as in accord with the high fashioned in textile industry. The project is aiming to provide various interiors aspects to cover home accessories. It carries range of colors that can adapt any kind of textile market and thus aiming to flourish in this region of the world and beyond. Through my products, helping both of the local and Mexican culture to be remembered with nice blend in styles. It emerged from the need to showcase the potential of textile tradition and to highlight the possibilities of contemporary textiles applications.
