    A study of literacy skills among children with hearing impairment studying in class vi
    (UMT, Lahore, 2013) Amna Shakeel; Madiha Ambreen
    The students who are hearing impaired have poor literacy skills and do not develop age appropriate reading and writing abilities. The purpose of this study was to study the literacy skills in hearing impaired students. In this descriptive research, researcher developed the test on the basis of literature review and hypothetical framework. The test contained 9 items and 5 components, which covered the different aspects of literacy skills. The data of 64 children with hearing impaired were collected from different special schools of Lahore. The reliability of the instrument was found as 0.82. The data was analyzed and results indicated that the literacy skills of children with hearing impaired of grade 6 were 42.8%. The finding also showed that the children with hearing impaired had low mean scores in writing and comprehension which was 34.2% and 42% respectively. The children with hearing impaired showed highest mean scores in phonological awareness which was 50.4%.
