    Victorian patterns
(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2017) Amjad, Aqsa
A queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, whose reign was the second longest reign of any other British monarch in history, is none other than Queen Victoria. Victoria wasn’t tilt to rule. Some unfortunate moments put her on the throne soon after her 18th Birthday. In this whole time period more things were invented than any other monarch that ever lived. They have made ornaments and motifs so beautifully. The curves and intricate work have made the patterns and ornaments look so amazing, which can be seen not only in fabrics but in their designed furniture, interior and at in architectural side, ornaments have been carved on the walls, tiles and in many other things. Whenever one think to make any product the very initial step for it is concept building. The work has been started by extracting the motives. Though extracted motifs are obviously replicated however motifs are used in such a way that the outcome would be totally different from extracted ones. Patterns and repeats are made either complex or simplified according to the requirements. 3 color scheme options are finalized then. Sampling and the product range of application of final fabric and after all the work a fine display will be organized. Outcomes would be different from the one Victorian people have worked on by using various techniques. For instance, block printing and mainly digital printing embroidery work and will surely go for some experimental techniques. Experience in this whole period of time is an asset in coming future and developing products which do not exist yet will be the target. The mixture of royal colors along with motives has brought out the real image of royalty in collection. Queen Victoria was a fashion icon. Many people have worked on Victorian era who were inspired by the spectacular work done in her reign. One must not think that people keep taking ideas from the old Victorian period. In fact it was the young 18 year old Queen Victoria and her lifetime struggles that have allowed people time and time again to create new work and extract fresh ideas from those experiences.
