Item Identification of membrane protein and its types using effective pattern recognition techniques(UMT.Lahore, 2015) Ahmad Hassan ButtHuman body is made up of about 100 trillion cells. Each cell constitutes many molecules also known as proteins which are responsible for performing different functionalities such as carrying out thousands of chemical reactions that are carried out in the interior of the cell. The outer surface of a cell is covered by protector like component which is called membrane of the cell. All the transportation of essential molecules is taken place through these membranes with the interaction of membrane proteins. About 50% of the drug targets are these membrane proteins. Due to this significant role of membrane protein in human cell activity the identification of membrane protein with accurate measures is essentially significant. The conventional experimentation methods for annotating the membrane proteins are time consuming and costly and in some cases impossible. However, the computational intelligence methods have emerged to be as useful factors in the automation of this identification process. In this study I have reviewed various techniques that have been used in past decades which are based on different computational methodologies used for the identification process of membrane protein. I also have proposed a new prediction model based on pattern recognition techniques. This technique was evaluated through support vector machine and neural network based classification methods in order to provide a better and accurate solution to the problem of membrane protein identification. Usage of neural network based identification model has been more successful in the prediction process of membrane protein and its subtypes than support vector machines.
