Impact of Clean Drinking Water and Sanitation on Life Expectancy in Pakistan
    (UMT, Lahore, 2022) Afifa Naeem
This research discusses the impact of clean water and sanitation on life expectancy. Proper water and sanitation is an important pillar for achieving sustainability as described in Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) “Clean water and sanitation” for all. Everyone needs access to clean water and proper sanitization for a better standard of living. This research uses Clean Water and Sanitation as dependent variable and Life Expectancy as independent variable. The data use in this research is secondary in nature. In analysis, descriptive method and graphical representation of variable is used. For analysis, the data is collected from World Bank indicators. The overall results of this study indicates, only 68% of the population has access to sanitation, while the remaining population relies on open defecation. And only 36% of people are drinking clean water and the rest of the population is drinking contaminated water which leads to many harmful diseases due to which life expectancy is only 67%. According to this study's findings, access to sanitary facilities and life expectancy are positively correlated. But, there is a negative relationship between clean drinking water and life expectancy. The data used in this research is from 2000 to 2020. This research summarizes the challenges of Sustainable Development Goal 6 in Pakistan. This paper will help the researchers to formulate different techniques to improve the quality of water and encourage people to use proper toilets and end open defecation.
