Item Exploring the Challenges and Barriers Faced by Hearing Impaired Students in Lahore, Pakistan at the Undergraduate Level(UMT.Lahore, 2024) Amna; Mahak ButtThis thesis examines the difficulties encountered by students with hearing impairments in higher education, with a particular emphasis on undergraduates at a private institution in Lahore, Pakistan. Employing a qualitative research methodology, the study delves into the social, academic, and institutional hurdles these students face through the use of interviews and group discussions. Communication issues, social isolation, being left out of class activities, and insufficient involvement in extracurricular and sporting activities are some of the major themes that have been found. The study draws attention to a classroom setting that is devoid of crucial support systems. The study uses Critical Disability Theory to show how inadequate accommodations, such as the lack of sign language interpreters and inclusive teaching methods, cause educational institutions to marginalize deaf students. The results highlight the structural barriers that hearing-impaired students face in the classroom and highlight the pressing need for changes in educational procedures that promote inclusivity. The study's ultimate goal is to increase public awareness of these problems and promote improved support networks in order to strengthen Pakistan's educational environment for those with hearing impairments. By emphasizing the need for focused interventions that can improve academic achievements and foster social integration for hearing-impaired students in higher education institutions, this research adds to the larger conversation on disabilities in education.
