Item Impact of leadership style on effectiveness of human resource information system(University of Management and Technology, 2012-05) Abdul GhaffarLeadership is a widely spread phenomenon in organizational context. There are many studies that have measured leadership impact on different aspects of the organization. There are studies which have witnessed the impact of leadership style on conflict management, employees’ motivation, organizational performance, employees’ performance etc. This study mainly focuses on the impact of leadership style on effectiveness of human resource information system (HRIS). There are mainly two types of leadership task oriented and people oriented. HRIS effectiveness includes many constructs i.e. system quality, information quality, and system use etc. Current studies primarily seek the impact of leadership on HRIS effectiveness. HRIS effectiveness is categorized in many ways by different researchers. For the purpose, constructs defined by Beadles, Lowery, and Johns (2005) will be used. According to them, HRIS effectiveness has seven major constructs i.e. satisfaction with the HIRS, HR process, cost savings, time savings, information effects, decision making and strategic impact and HR’s role. However, time savings and cost savings constructs were not considered for this particular study due to some constraints. To determine leadership style famous T-P Leadership questionnaire was used. Population for the current study was all the organization in Lahore using HRIS in any form. Questionnaires were sent to more than 70 organizations and after scrutiny data received from 27 organizations was found correct. According to theoretical model designed for this particular study leadership style was used as in independent variable while HRIS effectiveness was acted as dependent variable. HR functions implementation was moderating this entire relationship. The results obtained show a very strong relationship between leadership style and HRIS effectiveness when using HR functions implementation as a moderator. The studies also recommends without moderator the relationship between the two variables is very weak. It also suggest that leadership role is very important but processes plays very significant role, when we see impact of leadership on HRIS effectiveness. It is recommended to repeat the same study with some other leadership styles instead of task and relationship oriented leadership. Similarly other information systems used in an organization should also be tested on same grounds e.g. Accounting Information System, Decision Support Systems, Customer Resource Management etc.
