Item A morpho-semantic study of english neologism used on social-media by pakistani bs students in islamabad(UMT Lahore, 2023) Aimen SarwarThe aim of the present study is to scrutinize word-formation in English neologisms on different social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and WattsApp in terms of their multidimensional characteristics during the past decade. This research is based on the theory of onomasiology which is presented by Pavol Stekauer. Regardless of the notable list of literature in the research of innovative words, neologisms still justify a comprehensive insight by researchers in the field of English Linguistics, exclusively from the point of view of reflecting some actual societal authenticities in them. Neologism can be broadly divided into three different categories; firstly, use of novel lexemes, morpho-semantic shift in pre-existed words such as googling, and facebooking and finally category, fall those words, which have changed their meanings with passage of time but they exist in old form. The research is exploratory in its nature. The data were collected from contents in chats of university students at graduate level studying in Islamabad. The researchers have also examined the pages and social media space on Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat and WhatsApp of the students. The collected data were arranged in different sections according to their relevance with different walks of life such as Fashion Industry, Medical Field, Information Technology and Food Industry, etc. The selected words underevery section were examined under morpho-semantic processes of compounding, borrowing and blending. The results showed that that the process of neologism always brings flexibility in all the living languages with the passage of time.
