Item Safekeeping copyright laws in the digital age(UMT Lahore, 2024-08-21) Agha FasihullahThe broadly expanding digital arena has made safeguarding copyright laws highly complex. It has emerged as one of the most prominent challenges that libraries are facing. This abstract discusses the role that libraries in Pakistan can play in safeguarding copyright laws in the rapidly changing digital environment. In this regard, libraries could lead in fostering respect for intellectual property by facilitating access to information on copyright legislation, raising awareness about copyright issues among users, and practicing digital rights management. They serve as a bridge between copyright holders and the general public on the legal and ethical use of digital content. The challenges to libraries in Pakistan include inadequate resources, lack of awareness, and insufficiency of the legal framework. Notwithstanding, Pakistani libraries can engage in various initiatives aimed at the enforcement of copyright law through such innovative means as digital repositories, awareness campaigns, and collaborations with government and non-government organizations. These efforts balance between open access to information and safeguarding creators' rights. This paper shows how Pakistani libraries can save copyright laws through staff training, user education programs, and adopting cutting-edge digital technologies. By respecting the value of copyright in cyberspace, libraries in Pakistan can help contribute to a solid intellectual property regime and ensure a culture of legality with respect for the rights of authors. The research underlines the need for support and investment in library resources and education related to copyright to ensure that the many benefits of digitalization are harnessed without affecting content creators' in sentence case.
