Item Lived experiences of elementary school teachers related to online teaching during covid 19 pandemic(UMT Lahore, 2021) Ayesha ArshadThis study is intended to explore the lived experience of the primary school teachers related to online teaching during COVID-19. This study used a phenomenological research design and conducted semi-structured interviews with the 9 primary school teachers at different private schools in Lahore. The researcher identified the six broad themes related to online teaching: perception about online teaching, preparation of online lectures, use of technology, students’ participation, online evaluation, and challenges related to online teaching. The analysis of the data revealed that first reaction towards online teaching was quite strange because it was a new thing for them, and they had no training for this drastic change. The results revealed that they learned more about the technology through online teaching and enhanced their teaching skills. Most of the teachers shared that they prepared their lecture according to the content and the need of the student. Most of the teachers used different teaching methods and software for effective teaching. They did not stick to one method but used a couple of teaching methods. Most of the teachers used different technologies for teaching which was easy to understand for both teachers and students. Most of the teachers considered that online evaluation was not so effective if compared with the physical classrooms. In the physical classroom, they could also evaluate the other behavioural traits of the students. They also identified some challenges related to online teaching which they had to face during the online teaching. Most of the teachers identified the electricity problem, internet issues and connectivity through the software as the worst issues they had to face during their online teaching. The findings have been discussed from various perspectives and some suggestions based on findings have been put forward that online teaching is an effective medium of instruction in a diverse situation and teachers also need more training for the betterment of their professional skills related to online teaching.
