    Self-concept and Psychosocial Problems of Hearing-Impaired School Children

    Disability in the long run can have emotional, behavioral and psychological ramifications for the psychosocial functioning of individuals. The objective of this study is to develop an indigenous scale for school children who have trouble hearing, for that purpose the self concept and psychosocial problems of hearing impaired (HI)school children was explored. The phase I aimed to explore was the self-concept and psychosocial problems in HI school children. In phase II expert validation was carried out through 5 experienced clinical psychologists with minimum 10 years of working experience with hearing impaired children. In phase III, scales were converted into sign language with the help of speech therapist and in phase IV a pilot study was carried out. In the main study, a selected sample of 230 hearing impaired school children were given a self-concept scale, psychosocial problems scale along with Multi-Dimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MDSPSS) and Semantic Differential Scale.
