    Barriers to Decent Employment for Persons with Hearing Impairment and Implications for Special Education Policy in Pakistan

    Present mixed methods study was conducted to investigate the decent employment barriers faced by the persons with hearing impairment and propose some policy implications regarding decent employment of persons with hearing impairment in Pakistan. Sequential exploratory design of mixed methods approach was followed. The International Labour Organization model for decent employment for persons with disabilities provided the guideline for development of research instruments. Two qualitative interview protocols, one each for employers and for employees with hearing impairment and three quantitative survey questionnaires, one each for employers having hearing impaired employees, employees with hearing impairment, and for unemployed persons with hearing impairment were developed to assess the awareness regarding decent employment barriers in and private organizations. These instruments were administered on the sample selected purposively in qualitative phase and through snowballing and convenience sampling technique for quantitative phase. Phase one of the study was qualitative conducted using semi structured interviews, which were analyzed through thematic analysis. Phase two of the study was quantitative in nature conducted using survey questionnaires and analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistical analyses techniques.
