    Development of Resource Guide for the Use of Augmentative Alternative Communication Devices for Special Educators of Students with Communication Needs

    Communication is the ability to communicate with others and empower all persons with communication needs to deal with all affairs of their lives effectively. People with delayed developmental growth frequently encounter difficulties related to speech and language impairment. Unusual and challenging behaviours exist in most of these children as a means of expressing their desires and needs. Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Devices are used to address these challenges. These devices are instrumental tools planned to help people with communication needs express themselves effectively. These devices play a crucial role in supporting people who may face challenges with speech or language, either temporarily or permanently. The purpose of this study was to develop a Resource Guide for Special Education Teachers on the use of AAC Devices, to enable them to recommend suitable AAC Devices, for students with communication problems. The development of the resource guide consisted of six phases. Phase-1 preparation of list of contents of the resource guide, phase-2 selection of topics to be included in the resource guide, phase-3 organization of contents of resource guide and preparation of draft guide, phase-4 try-out of the guide on special education teachers for appropriateness and accuracy of language. Phase-5 validation, and finalization of the resource guide.
