Item Social intelligence, interpersonal difficulties and self criticism among young adults(UMT, Lahore, 2024) Qurba Hussain; Shariam Haq; Aiza BatoolThis study aimed to investigate the relationship between social intelligence, interpersonal difficulties, and self-criticism among young adults. The research question focuses on exploring the relationship between these specific factors in young adults. It was hypothesized that there would be a significant relationship between social intelligence, interpersonal difficulties, and self-criticism. Similarly, three more hypotheses were given in this study. A cross-sectional design was employed, involving a sample of 200 participants (N=200) aged 18-25. Data were collected using the Social Intelligence Scale, Interpersonal Difficulties Scale, and Self-Criticism Scale. Results showed a significant positive correlation between interpersonal difficulties and self criticism (r = 0.673, p < 0.01), while the correlation between social intelligence and self criticism was not significant (r = 0.041). Regression analysis revealed that interpersonal difficulties significantly predicted self-criticism (B = 0.73, p = 0.03), and social intelligence negatively predicted self-criticism (B = -0.18, p = 0.03), with the model explaining 47% of the variance in self-criticism (R² = 0.47). Additionally, it was observed that male participants showed higher value in two of the results Interpersonal Difficulties and Self-Criticism, indicating potential gender differences in the studied variables. The implications of the study suggest that understanding the interplay between social intelligence and interpersonal difficulties can help develop targeted interventions aimed at reducing self-criticism and enhancing mental well-being in young adults.
