Item Transient stability analysis of hvac-hvdc systems and power quality improvement of hvdc systems by designing optimized ac filters(UMT.Lahore, 2021) RANA SHAHEER MEHMOODThe lack of electrical power is the genuine issue that is being faced nowadays especially in Pakistan. Alternating current (AC) is being used at the load ends but for transmitting the electrical power for long distances, high voltage alternating current (HVAC) systems have some limitations as it is very difficult to control the power flow. High voltage direct current (HVDC) systems, provides technical and economic benefits for the long-distance power transmission as compared to (HVAC) systems. One of the main objectives of this research is to implement comparative analysis of HVAC and HVDC systems in order to increase the amount of power flow and in improving the power quality and stability of a high-voltage long-distance transmission line. Operations including load flow analysis, contingency analysis, short circuit analysis, steady state and transient state stability analysis are executed for a long-distance large-capacity power transmission system for both the systems. Second objective of this research is to improve the total harmonic distortion (THD) of HVDC systems by improving the AC filter design. Simulations are performed using the software, power system simulation for engineers (PSS/E) and power system computer aided design (PSCAD).
