Item The prevalence of psittacine beak and feather disease in suspected psittacine species in pakistan(UMT, Lhr, 2021) Abeera Mahboob Qureshi7 species of Psittacine birds from 6 genera of Psittaciformes were investigated for PBFD testing to check the prevalence of PBFD in different cities of Pakistan that were suspected for PBFD on the basis of their clinical signs and symptoms like increasing proportional feather degeneration and loss sometimes combined with dysmorphic features in beak that is palantine necrosis, fractures, and abnormal elongation. From total of 472 samples, 417 were positive of PBFD that were confirmed by standard PCR. Samples were gathered from Gujranwala, Multan, Sakhar, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Muzaffarabad, Mansehra, Peshawar, Bahawalpur, Jhehlum, Gujrat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Hyderabad, Quetta and Karachi. Total of 191 Ring neck parakeets, 55 Greater Sulphur cockatoos, 13 Blue and Gold Macaw, 58 Red Lory, 45 Alexandrine Parakeet, 90 Fisher’s Love bird and 20 Crimson Rosella were investigated. From which 173/191 with prevalence of 90.57% in Ring Neck Parakeets, 49/55 which is 89 % in Greater Sulphur Cockatoo, 8/13 with prevalence of 61.53% in Blue and Gold Macaw, 50/58 with 86.20% prevalence rate in Red Lory, 41/45 that is 91.11 % prevalence in Alexandrine Parakeet. 78/90 (86.6 %) in Fisher’s Love bird, 18/20 with a 90% Prevalence rate in Crimson Rosella confirmed the presence of BFDV and were positive for PBFD. Total prevalence for positive cases calculated as 88.35 %. This is the first study that reports the PBFD prevalence in suspected birds in Pakistan.
