Item Parenting style(UMT.Lahore, 2019) Areej Arif; Farwa ArifIt was hypothesized that self-silencing is likely to have negative relation on the marital satisfaction and authoritative parenting style has likely to have negative relation with marriage satisfaction, whereas it was a correlational study with, 125 married women from three cities (Lahore, Multan and Sheikhupura) participated in the study. The age range of married women ranged from 25-50 years with mean of 34 and standard deviation of 7.31. Non probability purposive sampling method was used to draw a sample. Parenting Styles Scale developed by Gelsma, Arrindell, Veen and Emmelkamp (1991), The Silencing of Self-scale by Dana Jack (2017) and Marital Satisfaction Scale by Mehwish Munir (2016) were used for assessment. The results revealed that authoritative father and authoritative mother were found to be positively significantly correlated with self-silencing and marital satisfaction. Whereas authoritarian and Permissive father and mother authoritative mother were found to be significantly negatively correlated with self-silencing and marital satisfaction. While self-silencing and its sub factors self-silencing, externalize self-perception, care as self-sacrifice and divided self-silencing the self were found to be significantly positively correlated with marital satisfaction. The results of direct effect showed that authoritative mother and authoritative father was found to be significant positive predictors of self-silencing and marital satisfaction. Whereas authoritarian mother and authoritarian father was found to be significant negative predictors of self-silencing and marital satisfaction. While permissive mother and father was found to be non-significant predictor of self-silencing and marital satisfaction. Moreover, self-silencing was found to be significant positive predictor of marital satisfaction. With the help of this study we can conclude that by changing parenting styles can change marital satisfaction whereas self-silencing also plays an important part.
