Item Reviving the art of blue pottery(UMT Lahore, 2025-08-21) Anmol YounasBeautiful cobalt blue patterns and intricate designs distinguish blue pottery. This traditional art form has been treasured for centuries in Central Asia, Rajasthan, India, and Multan, Pakistan. Industrialization, cheaper alternatives, and fewer skilled artisans have weakened the craft in recent decades. As artisans struggle, many traditional techniques may be lost. Blue pottery must be revived, modernized, and preserved while retaining its authenticity to preserve this rich cultural heritage. The study uses practical methods to revive blue pottery and make it marketable. Key objectives: Preserving traditional techniques: Documenting artisan styles for future generations. Understanding challenges faced by blue pottery artisans, including financial constraints, demand, and material availability. Utilizing technology: Utilizing eco-friendly materials and modern tools to enhance durability and efficiency without altering the craft. Developing sustainable business models: Benefiting artisans through digital marketplaces, global collaborations, and branding. Increasing market awareness and consumer interest in blue pottery through exhibitions, social media, and educational programs. The following plan will achieve these goals: Research and documentation: Visit artisan communities, document their work, identify market trends. Training & skill development: Hold hands-on workshops where skilled craftsmen teach newcomers. Innovation & sustainability: Use eco-friendly raw materials, new glazing methods, and design changes to attract modern buyers. Expand market: Promote artisans worldwide with designers, home décor brands, and e-commerce platforms. Policy & cultural advocacy: Promote funding, training, and fair trade for artisans with government agencies, cultural institutions, and NGOs. This initiative's strategies aim to: Protect blue pottery: Train and equip artisans to preserve this craft. Make artisans financially viable by integrating their work into modern markets. Encourage cultural appreciation: Explain blue pottery's history and significance to revive handmade crafts. Create a sustainable model: Help blue pottery artisans survive without seasonal tourism or local markets. This project brings blue pottery back into mainstream art and commerce and preserves its legacy through tradition and innovation.
