    Relationship between emotional intelligence and social competencies of teachers’ teaching children with intellectual disabilities

    Emotional intelligence and social competencies are crucial factor for special education teachers, as they significantly impact their teaching methods and behavior. The purpose of the current study was to examine the relationship between social competencies and emotional intelligence of teachers teaching children with intellectual disabilities and also find out the difference between emotional intelligence and social competencies of teachers teaching children with intellectual disabilities based on demographical variables. The study was comprised of 25 special education centers and schools in Lahore, out of which eight centers deal with children who have intellectual disabilities and seven schools deal with intellectually disabled children. A convenient sampling was used to select a sample of 100 teachers from both private and public centers and schools. Data were collected using a quantitative method through questionnaire. The data were evaluated using the independent sample t-test, mean, and standard deviation. The study was conducting by using two adopted scale. The findings indicated that there is positive and moderate relationship between emotional intelligence and social competencies of teachers who work with children who have intellectual disabilities. Future studies may evaluate the emotional intelligence and social competence of teachers who work children with intellectual challenges to find any potential differences. They were better at understanding and meeting the unique needs of these children, fostering a positive classroom environment, and building strong relationships with children.
