Item Prevalence of hepatitis B virus genotypes in different districts of Punjab, Pakistan.(UMT Lahore, 2019) Lala RukhHepatitis B is found common and serious liver disease and a major problem globally. A wide range of liver-disease are caused due to the infection of hepatitis B virus alternating from symptomless carrier form to chronic state of disease, liver cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma. HBV infects about 2 billion people in world out of which chronic carriers are about 400 million and about 600000 death occur each year. HBV is highly endemic in Pakistan with about nine million infections in people of Pakistan. Hepatitis B virus is enveloped, partially double stranded, relaxed circular DNA genome having 3200 nucleotides. Hepatitis is blood borne disease and some groups have high risk to get infected include barbers, dentists, sex workers, drug users, piercing of nose ear etc. This study includes 400 ELISA (HBV anti-body) positive samples out of which 340 (85%) were HBsAg positive through PCR. The positive samples were further analyzed on the basis of province, city, gender, age. Studied samples were further analyzed for prevalence of HBV genotyping in Pakistan using nested PCR. This study reveals females were equally exposed to transmission risk factors as males and age group of (20-39) has more infection rate in comparison to children and older age group due to their more exposure and interaction.
