Abstract
The study was aimed to explore the Empowerment related Teacher Leadership Practices in the Private Colleges of Punjab. It was assumed that the main task of leaders is to produce more leadership; this task could not be achieved unless the modern knowledge workers, the teachers are duly empowered by enhancing meaningfulness of work, self-efficacy, job commitment and job satisfaction. To suit the purpose of the study the dominant leadership styles were measured by using an eighteen item scale. It was used to differentiate between six leadership styles proposed by Goleman and his associates grounded in theory of emotional intelligence. Furthermore, it was investigated which leadership styleis more productive (resonant or dissonant) for teacher empowerment to create teacher leadership. Quantitative research design was used to conduct the study. Using cluster sampling 18 private colleges of Lahore were identified as clusters and teachers teaching in these colleges were approached to collect data to identify teacher leadership practices of the college principals. The study used on a personally constructed questionnaire according to 5 point Likert type Scale. The results showed that principals adopted diverse styles of leadership. None of the style has been significantly dominant. Resonant styles, visionary, affinitive and coaching made private college teachers professionally engaged and committed. It was found that coaching, affiliate and visionary leadership styles promote systems empowerment. Teacher leadership practices increased confidence in the system and promote, overall job satisfaction, professional and organizational commitment
