Fahmida Shoukat2025-11-252025-11-252022https://escholar.umt.edu.pk/handle/123456789/12770The present study investigated the moderating role of perceived social support in relationship between gender congruence and mental wellbeing, as well as mediating role of self-concept affecting the relation between gender congruence and mental wellbeing among transgender along with the relationship between all the study variables. It was hypothesized that 1) there is likely to be a positive relationship between gender congruence, self-concept, perceived social support and mental wellbeing among transgender, 2) Gender congruence, self-concept and perceived social support are likely to positively predict the mental wellbeing among transgender, 3) Perceived social support is likely to moderate the relationship between gender congruence and mental wellbeing among transgender, 4) Self concept is likely to mediate the relationship between gender congruence and mental wellbeing among transgender. Correlational research design was employed in the present study. Purposive sample of 200 transgender with an age range of 19 to 55 years (M = 29.62, SD = 7.51) were taken from different institutions working for transgender and transgender communities from Lahore and Bahawalpur. The self-constructed demographic sheet, Transgender Congruence Scale (Kozee, 2012), Self-Concept Clarity Scale (Campbell 1996), Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale (Zimet, 1988), Mental Health Continuum Scale (Keyes, 2002) was used to assess the sample. The results of Pearson Product Moment Correlation showed that significant positive relationship between gender congruence, self-concept, perceived social support and mental wellbeing among transgender. The results of the Multiple Hierarchical Regression analyses showed that self concept and perceived social support positively predicted the mental wellbeing among transgender. Further, gender congruence did not the predicted the mental wellbeing among xiii transgender. The results of the moderation analysis showed that significant positive interaction effect of support from friends as well as significant others in determining the relationship between gender identity acceptance and mental wellbeing among transgender. The result of the mediation analysis through PROCESS macro showed that self-concept positively mediated the relationship between gender congruence and mental wellbeing among transgender.
