Without having competence in the writing skills it is almost impossible to complete education in an effective way. As far as the students of Master Programs at the School of Education and Arts (SEA) at the University of Management and Technology (UMT) are concerned, they really need good writing skills to complete their education in an effective manner. Writing tasks which are given to the students during the period of study at UMT are really a nightmare for most of the students as most of the students face difficulties in accomplishing the writing tasks assigned to them. In this research thesis, the needs of the students have been analyzed by using three research instruments. Firstly, a questionnaire-based survey was carried out in which the students responded to both quantitative and qualitative questions. It helped in the initial need assessment. Secondly, an interview of the teachers was conducted. Thirdly, a test was administered in the class to assess the actual needs of the students.
