People now a days are very much involved and invested on social media. The so called “Influencers” are taking over the sole purpose of such platforms by setting unrealistic standards for their followers due to which every other individual feels the urge to look or seem perfect in every visible aspect in order to fit in the society and tries harder than their level which, if not accomplished, creates unnecessary pressure resulting into mild to severe cases of depression and inferiority/superiority complexes among people and that disturbs the mental health and growth. Whereas, the influencers are supposed to be introducing the people with most practical approaches and solutions towards different aspects of life other than showcasing the unreal-ness of the matters. It is considered essential these days to heighten every single thing one goes through or buys in such a show-off manner that the ones that are deprived of the car someone bought and posted about or the makeup someone brought and added a story about makes others feel low for no reason. The makeup and fashion bloggers are also doing very much the same thing. The trend of hashtags is so massively taking over to an extent that in some hilarious yet thought provoking cases some bloggers/influencers wake up and spend a good half an hour on getting ready just to fake a picture of them getting up that way for the sake of using hashtags. On the other hand, the thing that most people don’t take notice of, is that these people are just taking pictures for the sake of posting and so they only show what they want to. No matter how down someone is feeling, while scrolling through so many beautiful pictures of other people one feels like getting up and putting on some makeup just as it is and to cover their sleep wears / lounge wears they top it off with a nice scarf or a jacket, or maybe a shawl no matter whatever ugly stuff they are wearing underneath and just making sure that the picture turns out flawless. In this thesis the focus will remain on the difference between reality and those social media images. This thesis is inspired by the fakeness of social media as it creates so much hype whereas there is nothing to be hyped about in a way because what they are showing is perfection but what they are hiding beautifully is the reality. The purpose is to let people see that reality through fashion itself. This will hopefully ease some minds at least by realizing that nothing can be that perfect and it’s okay for it to be easy and to even have flaws. Beauty must never be standardized in any way, ever. The main objective is to create some extremely attractive tops or jackets which will be hiding the ugly or not-so-great clothes underneath. The jackets will be heavily embellished. The colours most prominently used will be bright and attractive with a combination of extremely dull tones underneath. The digital prints and adda work will be used extensively. The development of designs using fabric manipulation will be experimented. The basic preparation and colour management will be done. My work shall include the step by step procedure that I will be following along the way that shall consist of several attempts on motifs, pattern making and initial manual sketching as well as all the Photoshop attempts. Research boards and mood boards shall be developed and colour palette will also be presented along the final display. Different hand draping techniques will be used that will include mix media and different sorts of embellishments that I’ve been taught during my degree. All of my work on this theme will be displayed in the final degree show, inclusive of the final products. Finally, the work will visually bring along the overwhelming and already ruling power of social media on a common person. The whole objective will be achieved through the various range of products.
