How a student perceives his/her principal’s behaviour from his/her own capacity in school is the main objective of this study. A qualitative approach was used to document and analyze the perception of a secondary school student about his/her principal in the context of Pakistani culture. A descriptive method was used to carry out the study. Interviews with the secondary school students were conducted to capture their perception specifically about their principal and generally about schooling. This general perception of a student about schooling was considered relevant with his/her specific perception about his/her principal. Interviewees were both male and female students of secondary school. A questionnaire was developed to use for the interview of students. Although my main objective of thesis was students’ perception about principals yet such a perception about principals could be gauged through a spectrum of other possibilities which enhanced my understanding of the issue at hand. The principal was found knowledgeable and supportive as per norm and not as an exception. The students showed a bit digressed that the Principal does not do as he/she says. He/she goes by the situation norms or the rules. The environment at the school is reported to be preferential for some students not for all in all matters. It is recommended that the job description of the Principal should be clearly known to the students as well as to the principal and the Principal should be exposed to the training in socialization, value characterization, and instructional leadership as the custodian of the school.enMA ThesisEducationA study of students' perception about principalsThesis
