Abstract
The present study explored the psychosocial determinants of rule-breaking behavior (RBB) in young adults. In Pakistan it has been noted since long that the incidence of RBB are gradually increasing and multiple putative risk and protective factors are held responsible for this behavior. Keeping in view the current scenario of Pakistan the predictive role of temperament, family environment, perceived parental practices, cognitive errors, distress tolerance and interpersonal difficulties in developing RBB was identified. This research was carried out in series of five sub-studies; study 1 was about the development of RBB Scale. The exploratory factor analysis yielded three factors of the scale including crooked behavior, dominant and controlling behavior, and impulsivity. In study 2 a severity profile of RBB of young adults was developed which represents that 33% men and 39% women were falling in severe category of RBB. Study 3 was about the testing of hypotheses; a sample comprised of 1013 young adults between18-30 years (M = 20.90, SD = 2.33) of age were recruited through using stratified sampling technique. The participants completed a research protocol comprised of Rule Breaking Behavior Scale, Student Temperament Scale, Egna Minnen Betraffande Uppfostran-A, Family Environment Scale, Cognitive Errors Scale, Distress Tolerance Scale and Interpersonal Difficulties Scale.
