Abstract
Quality teaching is the most influential component of education. It is the only tool which can divert the minds, thinking, reasoning and direction of the nation toward positive attitudes and behavior which are the core foundations of an educated society. Going in the depth of the topic it comprises upon many dimensions, the most core central dimensions are; subject matter knowledge, student growth and development, instructional planning and strategies, assessment techniques and learning environment. Quality teaching is that infrastructural building of an educational system that is based on five strongest pillars, giving their best themes as, the latest and effective knowledge, enhancement of learner’s abilities, powerful teaching methodologies, helping in inferring the results and carting a supportive environment for the learner. Therefore, this study was conducted to know student’s perceptions about quality teaching in affiliated colleges of University of Education, Lahore. The study was based on Quantitative whereas cluster sampling technique was used to select sample for data collection in this study. The data was collected from 600 students enrolled in the colleges affiliated to the University of Education. The data was collected through 5-Likert scale tool. Descriptive and inferential statistics (Simple t-test and Independent sample t-test) were used to determine the perception of students about quality teaching in affiliated colleges. The results of the descriptive statistics showed that students were satisfied with teaching quality in institutions. The study finds that there was no significant difference found on the basis of gender and age of stay in affiliated colleges about quality teaching. There was a significance difference between the perceptions of students about quality teaching on the basis of program and facility. Based on the findings it is recommended that affiliated colleges of University of Education need to improve quality of teaching to enhance the learning and skills of students. In this regard affiliated colleges and University of Education are required to take various initiatives including improvement in course preparation and delivery, giving students challenging assignment that require field work, appropriate feedback of students’ performance, professional development of teachers, assessing students through using higher order levels of cognitive domain, and fulfillment of the requirements of the accreditation bodies.
