Synthesis of Smart Polymers by Visible Light and Organic Photoredox Catalyzed Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization
    (UMT.lahore, 2024) MUHAMMAD ASIF IQBAL
In this current research work, we employed an innovative approach involving visible light mediated organic photoredox catalyzed atom transfer radical polymerization (O-ATRP) for the synthesis of smart or stimuli responsive polymers. Metal free poly(methyl methacrylate-graft hydroxypropyl cellulose) (PMMA-g-HPC) and poly(vinyl pyrrolidone-graft-hydroxypropyl cellulose) (PVP-g-HPC) stimuli responsive polymers were successfully synthesized with controlled molecular weight and narrow dispersity index (Đ) via O-ATRP. For this purpose, novel organic compounds 1,2,3,5-tetrakis(carbazol-9-yl)-4,6-dicyanobenzene (4CzIPN) and 2,4,5,6-tetrakis(diphenylamino)isophthalonitrile (4DPIPN) were also synthesized in this research work. These organic compounds 4CzIPN and 4DPIPN were employed as an organic photoredox catalysts. These novel photocatalysts were used for the synthesis of PMMA-g-HPC and PVP-g-HPC polymers.
